Flag state oversight for safe navigation, security, and environmental protection
The Eritrea Maritime Registry ensures effective and continuous oversight of Eritrean-flagged vessels in accordance with applicable national legislation and international maritime conventions.
The Registry oversees Safety Management Systems in accordance with the ISM Code, ensuring shipowners and operators establish effective management procedures to ensure safe operation, identify and assess risks, prevent accidents and pollution, and continuously improve safety performance.
The Registry ensures compliance with the ISPS Code to enhance maritime security. This includes oversight of Ship Security Plans, Ship Security Officer requirements, and issuance of International Ship Security Certificates (ISSC).
The Registry monitors PSC performance of Eritrean-flagged vessels calling at foreign ports, including reviewing inspection outcomes, detention records, and deficiencies reported by PSC authorities.
The Registry conducts investigations into marine accidents and casualties to determine causes, identify safety lessons, and prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
The Registry enforces measures relating to oil, chemical, sewage, and garbage pollution, air emissions, and operational pollution prevention in line with international environmental standards.
The Registry cooperates with port state control authorities, recognized organizations, and international maritime partners through information exchange and adherence to best practices.
