Implementation of international maritime instruments and codes
Eritrean-flagged vessels are required to comply with the following international conventions and codes.
Establishes minimum standards for the construction, equipment, and operation of ships to ensure safety of life at sea.
Regulates the prevention of pollution from ships including oil, chemicals, sewage, garbage, and air emissions.
Sets uniform standards for the training, certification, and competency of seafarers.
Establishes requirements for freeboards and load lines to ensure adequate stability and seaworthiness.
Provides navigational rules to prevent collisions between vessels at sea.
Requires establishment and implementation of a Safety Management System for safe operation and pollution prevention.
Establishes measures to enhance maritime security by preventing unlawful acts against ships and port facilities.
