Statutory surveys and recognized organization oversight
All Eritrean-flagged vessels are subject to statutory surveys to verify compliance with applicable conventions relating to safety, security, and environmental protection.
Conducted prior to a vessel entering service under the Eritrean flag, verifying compliance with all applicable statutory requirements.
Carried out yearly to confirm continued compliance and that the vessel's condition remains satisfactory for safe operation.
Conducted within specified intervals between renewal surveys, focusing on key safety, structural, and operational elements.
Performed at prescribed intervals to verify full compliance prior to the renewal of statutory certificates.
The Eritrea Maritime Registry authorizes recognized organizations (ROs) and classification societies, including members of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), to carry out statutory surveys and issue statutory certificates on behalf of the flag state.
Recognized organizations act under formal authorization agreements and are required to perform their duties in accordance with the standards, procedures, and instructions issued by the Registry. The Registry retains overall responsibility for flag state oversight and monitors the performance of recognized organizations.
